Cozumel: The Mexican Caribbean’s Best Destination!

When people talk about vacationing in the Mexican part of the Caribbean, you immediately think of Cancún, Playa del Carmen, or even sometimes Isla Mujeres. But there is one beautiful island that may have flown below your radar until now: Cozumel.

When to visit Cozumel and how to get here?

Like the rest of Mexico, there is never really a wrong time to visit Cozumel, just rainier days than others. The driest season for Cozumel is between December and March (also the high season). We recommend going between March and June when the weather is not too hot, and the rainy-hurricane-season has not started. Of course, this does not mean that if you come between July and November, you will have a bad experience. Be sure to research the best kind of vacation “flavor” you want.

It is easy to get to Cozumel. While the island has an airport with many cities in the United States, most visitors land in Cancún first and take a shuttle or bus to Playa del Carmen and the ferry over to Cozumel. The ferries make the 30 to 45 minute trip to Cozumel every hour.

Cozumel has a laid-back and relaxing vibe you feel immediately on arrival. Contrary to its mainland cousins like Cancún and Playa del Carmen, Cozumel is not a wild party town. The western and southern sides of the island are the most popular tourist spots, while the east side presents wide expanses of empty beaches. To make things even more accommodating, Cozumel offers plenty of all-inclusive hotels. You can easily find one for a reasonable price.

Cozumel is home to the second-largest coral reef in the world; it extends all around the island. So you never run out of dive options and can marvel at the oceanic beauty all day long. For an aquatic enthusiast, a marvelous adventure is waiting in Cozumel. The island offers diverse scuba diving and snorkeling spots with different depths and sea creatures like fishes, turtles, rays, sharks, and even sunken ships. 

3.-The tours

There are many kinds of tour packages to satisfy every type of adventurer. You can book a scuba diving tour to several spots around the reef. There are also jeep tours that combine land and sea activities. Jeep through marvelous jungle vistas in the morning and go scuba diving in a private spot in the afternoon. Whatever particular shape your adventure cravings may take, the local expert guides will guarantee a fun and authentic visit.

4.-Shopping, eating, and drinking

The downtown part of Cozumel, technically San Miguel, is where you will find all kinds of shops that take US currency and where you can buy clothes, jewels, or souvenirs. Here is also where you will find most of the local restaurants. They serve the most authentic and delicious food on the island (with refreshing margaritas or tequila sunrises to enhance your meal).
